Day 34- Monday December 14, 2015
I had the joy of picking up my auction wins today, so it was a busy one after work ended. At auction I won two beautiful vintage cameras--a Minolta XA1 with a 60-300mm lens, the classic 50mm 1.7 prime, and the coolest suitcase to haul my stuff around in. It was used by our Narcotics division, so I think i'll probably leave the property stickers on it. I like those stickers! Obviously needs a couple batteries and a 35mm film cartridge, but can't wait to start shooting it.
Not long after I picked up this beauty, i was able to load up three, yes three older Dell optiplex 745 computers. My plan was to beef up one with extra ram and an old hard drive my mother had in a computer she didn't use anymore. After about 2 hours of booting and nuking, I also found an old copy of XP SP3 Pro online. Since I already have the windows numbers with the original machine, I can load it right up. Oh yeah, I plan on using this computer solely for photo editing--no internet, not extra garbage. Just fast kickass computer running photoshop and other various editing programs. Good day as I got the crime scene cam for $40, and the three computers (from about 2007) for $11. My last win was a beautiful Canon AE-1 Program, that came from Crime Scene. I was able to get that for $21 and am extremely happy with that purchase. I can't wait to shoot it. I think it may be my favorite 35mm slr I own and I haven't even shot it yet! Just keep reading great info on it.
Back in November I won an auction on super cheap 35mm's. The problem was that they were in Niceville. I hate driving to Niceville--the horrific traffic, and for a whopping $2.35, I was going to let these go--luckily I was able to make a deal with the auction folk and have them bring them to my county to pick em up! A fully automatic point and shoot Canon Sure Shot with a 38mm 2.8 lens. Bonus? There was a roll of Kodak 400 film inside. So yeah, I started shooting it immediately as the batteries were still good. This one took AA so it would have been easier to replace anyway. Interesting automatic mode. I couldn't help but let the kids have a turn too, so I'm not sure I'll be posting EVERYTHING taken with this but I do hope the photos turn out well. We'll see soon, I'm sure.
The final camera in that 'bundle' that set me back $2 and some change was a Fuji Discovery 290Zoom.
Nothing on this was working and the battery was not in my inventory so I'll have to see how this turns out, or whether it even works. But, For about 90 dollars, I was able to happily grab some great vintage cameras to mess around with, and a pretty beefy older computer to edit my digitals. Results will be shown, hopefully soon.
