Days 38, 39, 40 - December 18 - 20

Day 38--Friday,  December 18, 2015
OK. So I've been slacking over the weekend.  Very busy come Christmas time, but I was able to get batteries for the film cameras I won at auction.  The Fuji 290 autozoom is actually a pretty cool little camera.  I dropped in the 24 exp roll of film inside and took a pic of my daughter.  Then I gave it to her to burn through the roll.  She need some tips as far as holding the camera steady, but I think they turned out pretty good for the most part. There was some bad lens flare in some of them so I told her what she needed to do to turn off the flash.  Not long after, I was able to drop it off to see how they turned out.  Pretty well, I think.  It's a 38-90mm auto zoom lens.  My total cost for it, the Canon Sure Shot and a smaller disposable camera was $1.75.  Worth the price of admission and the test!

Day 39-Saturday, December 19, 2015
Two years ago, Jens grandmother died on this day.  It was early morning and we remember the call like yesterday.  Jen's mother on the phone just saying 'she's gone'.  As hard as it was, it was expected to happen soon, as the cancer had spread quickly.  We were hoping she'd make it to Christmas.  She was a wonderful woman, full of vigor and always moving and shaking.  She died at 4:30 am that morning.

Nan, and how I'll always remember her!  35mm 1980's or late 70's

Today we were able to go downtown and hit Gallery Night in Pensacola.  The lighted streets were spectacular and I felt I should dress for the occasion.  AND, bonus, it was about a 45 degree windy night, pushing the wind chill temps in to the 30's.  Sweater and Blazer time. I was able to get a few shots of the street but was over burning my flash, and my people were not really in the mood for me to figure things out.  it was cold in their defense.

I did get a good shot of my daughter under the lighted tree though.

Day 40- Sunday, December 20, 2015
The Polaroid 100 Land Camera comes back to life!!
After an day of Rock and roll shows, coupled with awesome Christmas parties the night before, when I Finally woke up on Sunday, I decided to try and get the old Polaroid 100 working again.  We received it after Jen's grandmother died, almost two years earlier, and I thought it would only be a prop.  I had no idea, they still made film for these things until after doing some research--cheap film at that.  I had to get this old one working again. Enter my polaroid buddy I met on instagram, @rustypants.  Scott is a Local teacher and got up with me one day when I offered a Crime Scene SLR Macro 5 I won at auction.  I actually won two of them but my son wasn't interested.  Of couse, i didn't think I'd win them both at $1.50 a piece.  i was able to get old film from the precincts now that it was obsolete too for my daughter to shoot.  I blame her for me starting thing whole thing of film.  Between my son getting me back into fishing, and my daughter getting me back into film, i'm really not sure what to do!  Anyway, I gave rusty the camera for free, so when we met he told me to bring him the Land Camera for inspection.  That was probably around June or maybe even April of this year.  Bummer.  My camera needed a clip to keep the rollers in place. So I kept my eyes open for the next 4 months, knowing I'd find one someday. People wanted ridiculous prices for their old cameras at the flea market.  And I'm talking absolute trash.  $20? Really?  Marked down to 10 and the bellows on the camera are completely dry rotted?  I think i spoke of this flea market jackass before.....To good ol Craigslist I went, constantly perusing the site for the next six months. Then, there it was.  An old 100 that was posted not in the photo section.  $10.  For parts?  Sure.  the condition looked decent enough.  After a few phone calls and an early ride to work one morning, I met the guy and his grandson, who was selling it.  It was in pretty good shape (for a 53 year old camera) and I gave the kiddo the $10 and merrily went on my way.

Long story short, I was able to meet up with @rustypants and get this problem with the clip figured out after my sons basketball game.  In the parking lot. We were able to get the clips set on the camera, so all I needed to do next was get the 4.5v battery manipulated to fit a AAA battery cage, found in most $2 flashlights at Lowes. Yep. Bought one.  Yep, took the cartridge to my friend after stripping wires.  Yep got it soldered together correctly.  Then, with the 100c film given to me as a good will gesture by @rustypants for the Marco SLR, it happened. And it was good.

I'm still grinning at the quality of photo this thing takes, and at about $9 for 10 prints, I'm a little almost giddy. First I took a pic of my son and a buddy that spent the night. in front of the Crepe Myrtle.  A little far away, and the camera does have some view finder issues I need to figure out. The focus was off, but i also figured that the slide to focus was sticking, so I manually moved it to try for better images.  Worked out pretty well.  the next pic was to my neighbor and his wife who helped me get this thing soldered. next was of daughter, daughter and her friend, then me in my favorite new Christmas Sweater.

Merry Christmas Polaroid, oh yeah--shitter's full :)
