Day 123 - Sunday March 13, 2016

Day 123- Sunday March 13, 2016 (100mm day 2)

So I'll be taking photos using the 100mm lens for the next month.  I'm sure I'll be using multiple lenses, but I'll definitely make myself use the 100mm everyday, so the next 28 posts will be strictly using the 100mm lens.

Got to see Ray today.  Was glad he came to see me.  The madness this man has gone through over the course of the past week is more than I could probably bear.  He told me when his mother passed, on Thursday March 10, it was almost exactly six hours on the dot until his daughter birthed his grandbaby.  Simple lessons on the circle of life and how God works with us every day.  Sometimes I think we just don't see it. Jen wept after he left.  I wept for him before he came over when she and the kids were shopping.  As he was in the waiting room for his daughter to give birth, not without complication of course, his mother was fading away.  The neat thing he told me was that his awesome mom, a mother of 9, (yes NINE children) thrived on chaos.  He said she wouldn't have had it any other way. I felt comfort in that, but it's always hard seeing your best friends go through multiple 'chaoses' such as what he went through just a few days ago.  He said she died of a burst aneurysm on the base of her brain.  There was nothing the doctors could have done anyway.  He also stated they said she was basically brain dead before she hit the floor.  It was basically life support for the next 24-30 hours until she was gone.  No pain, just sudden.

Sometimes the good things about death is that it brings family together, stories, etc.  i remember when my grandfather, whom I adored, died before my daughter was born, I'd gotten to see relatives I had not seen since we were kids, so if there is anything good to come from it, it's that.  The Neffs are scattered all over. They live in FL, OH, and PA.  I know at least half of them.

Ray said Isabel named her baby after his mom.  Elizabeth Mabel.  Perfect.  He also states she's the quietest happy baby he's ever seen.  Guessing there is some old soul residing in there.  Very happy grandpa, but also a very sad son. Prayers for ya, brother--may your mom rest in piece and take in all the chaos from above.

Today was a busy one.  The time change for one, along with the hike for the day.  We and the Eisensees added our dogs to this trip because the kids chose not to go. GT was at a birthday party for a kid down the street and was up until 2:30 so he looked like a crap sandwich, and after we got the text that he ate 'the bad' we figured we'd give him a pass today.  Avery had schoolwork, so she got a pass too.

Today's hike was from the Naval Live Oaks eastward this time, with a spur off and around the beaver pond and near Reservation Rd.  A best total of 4.5 miles. It was getting hot on the trail at 79 degrees, but with the white sand and not a lot of air movement, it always feels warmer.  We loved the cool walks when we veered off onto the single track around the bog.  Beautiful place we got here in our own back yard.  One of the reasons I love hiking right now!

Not long after Ray left it was time to hit Mobile for our fourth Caleb Caudle show.  The opening band, Cicada Rhythm, a three piece out of Athens, GA was very good too. Another great evening in Mobile at my favorite place, and we were home in bed by 11PM.  Gotta love that place.  The new album by Caleb is very good. When we first listened to songs that were sneak peeks over the course of the week, we really didn't know what to think, but the whole is definitely greater than the sum of it's parts.

Even better, with the money Otis gave us to get their drunk asses home on Saturday, Jen took the money and got her a Caleb Caudle shirt.  Sometimes altruism does pay :)
