Day 167 - Tuesday April 26, 2016
I'm deciding to hit all the neighborhood streets in every neighborhood near me for the final few days of #30daysofbiking. These bike rides take me down streets I've never been down--on a bike you always notice more than when you're in a car, so it doesn't hurt to ride around neighborhoods and subdivisions nearby to check out things I haven't seen. Wish I would have done this earlier in the biking month. It's actually pretty fun--can get tedious the further out you go but basically pretty easy to build up the miles.
Today I hit two nearby neighborhoods, the Ranchettes and one of my all time favorite neighborhoods, Whisper Bay. I noticed Ranchettes are all ranch houses, the same type as ours from the late 70's early 80s. What I did NOT know what that absolute humongous size of the lots in the front section! Don't get me wrong, we have a pretty big yard at a third of an acre, but I think these may be close to an acre, with huge storage buildings and greenhouses taking up sections of yard. They are ginormous. I also noticed some friends that I haven't seen in a while making a chicken coop for their yard-and they have one of the SMALL lots! Guess that's why I like riding these neighborhoods. It helps me to see what's going on around me and check out places I haven't seen in years. A slight breeze and 83 degree weather didn't hurt the ride today either!
Next up was Whisper Bay. The oaks in Whisper Bay subdivision are absolutely magnificient. Knotted arms and branches the size of an older tree reaching toward the sun in every which way. It's always cooler in Whisper Bay because of all the shade. There were piles of oak leaves all over, in the roads, the yards, and in the bags. It seemed the whole subdivision was out side raking, and blowing and shoveling up the oak leaves. It seemed that the fall had just ended--guess they drop in springtime here. During my first loop around the road in order to get to the other road in order to get back to the road with the offshoots that I hadn't seen yet, I saw a beautiful canopy of trees with piles of oak leaves in the street. I didn't stop to take the picture until the second lap. Broke out the easy to store in the pocket Nikon again and snapped a few. This was my #30daysofbiking photo for the day on IG.
A gorgeous day to ride, and I hardly noticed I was able to wrangle up a nine mile ride on a cruiser averaging 11.4 mph! Perfect day to ride. Hope to go tomorrow too and hit Sandpiper Village and maybe even Bayshore. Hope tomorrow is as pretty as today. Love to explore!
