Day 186 - Sunday May 16, 2016
Today was a beautiful day. We met Otis and Emily at the Point of Ft Pickens early, around 0900 and hung out under blissful conditions for about two and a half hours. Unfortunately when we were headed out there were classic car shows going on (to Gt's ooooh's and aaah's in the back seat) We probably should have pulled over and let him get his kicks, but we were already late to get out to the point so we figured we'd hit them on the way back.
Didn't get a chance to view the cars on the way back because it was a BUSY day on Pcola beach. Jet Ski races, Car shows, etc. I have to say, I really liked the 57 Chevy Nomad in baby blue driving southbound early this morning. I'm a wagon guy, what can I say :)
I broke out the Minolta for the beach pics today and the ride home from Pensacola later. I had 21 pics left on the roll and wanted to use them up. It's been a while since I've shot film and today seemed like a perfect day to shoot. Bright conditions, beachin with my good buddies, and early in the morning decent light.
I was not let down with this. They turned out fantastic as we finished the roll on the tandem bike ride home. See Avery had a 'not date' at the Wahoos game this afternoon with her buddy Brendan. We picked him up and took him there, with our tandem on the back, with the understanding that Avery would drive him home. He seems like a good kid--so far. We'll see how this plays out. A little small talk and we dropped them off and gave Avery the keys.
We took the tandem off the rack with inspirations to go to the Lionfish festival but got there as they were giving out prizes to those who rid our waters of the most fish. Between first, second, and third place, There were over 2700 Lionfish removed from our gulf waters. That was pretty exciting to hear!
Not long after the festival was over, we headed to our favorite place to grab sunday/funday beers--hopjacks. Today Jen and I thoroughly enjoyed a Fairhope brewery Jalapeno/Habanero Pale Ale, and for our second we downed A Rogue Strong Ale (strong it was at 11.3%). Then we shared a sixpoint stout before the ride home.
The ride home was glorious and as easy as 14.2 miles with no wind and nothing but glamorous sun in 80 degree heat could be. Days like these I feel I could ride hundreds of miles. Turned out to be a beautiful day.
Also, another first. I deactivated my facebook account. I've been thinking about doing it for a long time, especially with all the bullshit I've seen on there for the past five years--It seems to be nothing but rehashes of old e-mails and chain letters. I'll stick with Instagram, thank you, and this blog as long as I keep it up. I can only pray I can keep it deactivated forever, as it's seriously gotten old.
I also decided, while deactivating my fb account to deactivate some old friends I was trying (too desperately) to keep up with. Now that I know I have attempted to better myself, I can finally let this go. Bygones. Today was an uplifting one, especially after I got the photos back from Walgreens. Today's pics were all from the Minolta. Thanks X700, this is the absolute best batch yet!
