Day 214 - Sunday June 12, 2016
We decided to hit Navarre Beach this morning for more paddleboarding with our neighbors and to let the kids grab some fantastic shells that are currently being dredged up from a dredging machine for a beach renourishment project. The dredge tankers are about a half mile off the beach, picking up sand from the ocean floor and transferring it to the beach to combat erosion. In the mix come a variety of some of the most amazing shells that you don't see on the beach everyday. My daughter is a shell collector and is well versed in her identification skills. Today she found a rather large lightning whelk, which is supposedly pretty rare. I'll have to get a pic of the finds when they get them all displayed. Hopefully that'll show up a little later.
Until then, I broke out my trusty Canon Digital Elph that we haven't used in at least a year. The battery fired right up and I made that my go-to for the paddleboard trip out. I keep it in an air tight box, but only like taking cameras that I feel I could do without should disaster occur. I posted a couple of the beauty of Navarre beach from about a half mile out on the paddle boards. It. Was. HOT on the beach today, but the water felt nice. I'm not too fond of carrying two paddleboards on a dune walkover then out a long beach in 100 degree heat, but i guess it was worth it once we got there and out on the water. It was crystal clear.
