Day 301 - Friday September 9, 2016

Day 301

I love my Fridays.  I REALLY love being able to leave about 10 minutes early for work on Friday mornings, so, just in case there is an amazing sunrise such as the one below, I'll have time to compose a very nice reminder of said sunrise.  September and October play out perfectly for these compositions.  Needless to say, the low humidity combined with the distant fog always makes for nice photos in one of my favorite areas to shoot.

After chatting with my boss today, we are deciding to spend one day a week working from home.  Don't get me wrong, lots of people seem to think of laziness when there are work from home days, but with office noise, and having to concentrate, I can get more accomplished working from my laptop at home.  Not to mention the 50 miles wear and tear on my car, gas expenses etc.  I think it was a great decision made between us, and it'll work out for the best (at least in the short run).

I got off early and had to pick up Jen's present at Coastal paddle as she celebrates her 43rd birthday tomorrow.  I bought her a pretty neat KAVU sling bag that she's currently using as a purse and states she'd like to use on her bike commute when things cool down.  Unfortunately the humidity is back in Florida.  Ugh.  Shin sweat sucks.

After picking up her present, I needed gas.  After passing the final gas station (that I didn't know was closed) I decided to get gas at the trusty Circle K right next to my neighborhood.  As I was pumping, approx 2 minutes later, there was an intersection head-on collision, I was looking the other way, but heard the brakes squealing, then the unmistakable sound of metal-grinding with metal.  A Chevy Trailblazer vs. a Mazda.  The Trailblazer was crossing the intersection when it happened.  Wasn't real sure who was paying attention and who wasn't.  Not long after, as I finished pumping and watched the nearby motorists stop to help, the smoke started to billow from the blazer, then came the fire.  It was a scary situation as it was so close to the pumps.

After realizing the people were helping out and I heard the sirens in the near distance, I left after snapping a quick pic from my phone.  The man in the Blazer appeared OK as he went to help whomever was driving the Mazda car.  The airbags had blown, which is never a good sign.  I hope the driver of the Mazda is OK, all the while thinking -- 'had I been a couple of minutes later, that could have been me' -- with striking realities of how, in an instant, life can change.

Interestingly enough, my daughter reported a wreck on Whisper Bay and other wrecks on the way to Pensacola.

Our slow ride was tonight and Donald Trump was in town doing a political rally.  I'm voting for the third candidate on the list, as I can't stand either of the Dem Rep candidates.  What a mess.  I don't follow politics anyway-I'd love it if they both cancelled each other out and this third guy, whom no one knows, would win. There is no WAY he could be worse that what we're supposed to vote for, one way or another.

Jen, Amber and I waited for Joe to get off work so we could do our own 'slow ride' downtown, and grab some pizza afterwards at Hopjacks to enjoy a couple of $2 sweetwaters.  While waiting for Joe to arrive, we missed the sunset (obstructed by trees off G St and near Sanders Beach), but we were able to come across this very cool, (although horribly bondoed) VW microbus with a hard Westy type top.  I sent the pic to Avery to hopefully cheer her up as she's been a little depressed lately.  A good ride, but I was hoping for better picture opportunities.

I took an interest in the WHP from IG.  It was WHPStyle, which was supposed to be an urban photography theme. Basically, find someone in a dress that you noticed, because the person wearing that outfit is looking to get attention of some sort, so why not take a pic of them with a complementary background?

As we ate at Hopjacks, and after a couple of snacks, a party walked in with this pretty black woman wearing this bright red dress.  I wanted her to be my subject, as her lipstick complimented her dress.  The hard part was trying to figure the background, which drove me crazy.  Walking up and asking wouldn't have been a problem (although Jen thought it was creepy) but my hard part was trying to figure the background.  Needless to say, I had trouble figuring where to take the pic, so we walked out after we paid our bill, and I was a little frustrated.  Maybe, after thinking about it the next day, it would have been better to see her on the street and ask, not ask while she was dining at the table with her friends.  Next time.
