Day 310 - Sunday September 18, 2016
Day 310
Today we decided to go to the beach late in the day, after the Saints got beaten by the Giants on a last second field goal. Jen and I were supposed to go to Reid and Karen's for a brew fest but I'd forgotten about the rotors and the brake pads that needed changed on the Minivan (Ivanka).
That morning around 9am, before it got too hot out, I started pulling tires, and calmly showed both kids how to remove a tire from the minivan. I decided I'm going to let them do each rear tire when I go to change the rear brakes in a couple of weeks, in order to see if they retained what they learned. I was able to get the rotors and pads changed out in the front in a couple of hours. I really love the fact that Youtube posts videos of how do do things, because once I got the calipers off, I forgot how to get them back on! Also borrowed a spreader from Joe. This job is extremely on newer vehicles when you don't have to mess with drums on the rear! I can't believe my tire guys wanted to charge me almost $300 to do it. Absolutely crazy, and I find it fun just to take the initiative to do things yourself. Total cost for me on the brakes AND rotors was $72.95, with about two hours of my time too. That kind of stuff makes me happy, even if it does start raining right at the end of the install!
I apologized to Reid for not being able to make it, and later we decided to go to the beach. The weather was awesome at 4:30. Cool breezes, very small beach population, but nasty looking water. Finally after they stopped fighting, the kids walked off by themselves, leaving Jen and I to read our books. I finished "it's what I do" by Lynsey Addario. It was an incredible tale. This chick is a total badass! I'd strongly recommend the read. Awesome.
A Green Bay / Minnesota game and X-files later, we were in bed after a fun day.
