Day 316 Saturday Sept 24, 2016
Day 316
I woke up this morning and laid in bed for a while. Sleep has not been my best friend lately, allowing me to gather about 4-5 hours at a time and then no more, so basically I awaken, find something to do for an hour or so (lately i've regained my passion for books--not a bad thing) then attempt to fall back asleep. This has been working for me recently.
This morning, after an amazing night of sleep i was up at 0600. I had my phone nearby for things to do, so I brought up my trusty Craigslist app. Search>bikes.
The very first one that came up was a post that was done about 5 hours ago. Certainly not many people would have the nerve to text or email this guy, let alone be bike shopping at 01:00! As soon as I saw the Trek Pure comfort (basically a townie 7 speed--I already own a Townie 3) bike online for $50, I HAD to send a text. Yes, at 06:30 am with an I'm sorry for this but I'm really interested in your bike text. Hoping, praying I was the first one to send and I'd be the one to get the response. I haven't been lucky at these lately--usually the guy pulls his ad off or I'm beaten to the punch by two or three people.
I got my wish. At about 8AM, I received a text back from the seller--he was willing to sell the bike to me--I told him I'd be there in two hours, sight unseen.
Avery decided to go with me, which always helps during a sale if you want to negotiate, but I knew this was a hot item--a 350-400 dollar bike, in a USED state. New, they sell for close to 550 or 600 dollars. I was excited. I told wifey when she awoke that I was going to buy a bike and she could forgive me later--it turned out grand, and she wasn't so pissed once she took it for a ride. It's hers now. We each have 400-550 cruisers that we each paid $50 a piece for. When luck happens, it does--even if only once per year.
