Day 345 - Sunday October 23, 2016
Day 345
I keep telling myself that I'll take it easy, and buy concrete in increments, and lay and move sand and stuff until I tire. I started the process yesterday morning, about three days after I was able to get the ground a level as I could. On Saturday, before my son's debacle football game, i put about 4 hours into laying a foundation and setting concrete in the walkmaker. Now, an 80lb bag of concrete will take a lot of of you, and it's not like I can haul 20 or so bags in the Kia, so i do about 4-6 bags of mixing at a time. When you don't mix concrete on a daily basis and sit stagnant at a computer, you use muscles that are not used to being used. It WAS a beautiful day for setting a concrete pad though--temps in the low 60s' and not a cloud in the sky. As I worked in my 'plumber' clothing, apparently I exposed my lower back, right above the crack of my butt, as I bent over and set the block. A nasty sunburn ensued, but I was able to finish much more patio than I expected. I originally hoped for an 8x12, but although they make it look easy and it's WORK, I'm not opting for a bit bigger 12x12 or 12x14 slab. Buy stock in ibuprofen!
