Day 365 - Saturday November 12, 2016 (ONE YEAR LATER)

 Day 365--November 12, 2016
The year in review.

Usually when one thinks they're going to do something for a full year, no matter what it is, there is usually failure involved.  I made it a point last year, to attempt a 365 day photo a day challenge. Obviously I failed in some respects, such as not being able to take a photo every day, but I strongly believe my photography skills were vastly improved since the first photo I took of that sunset on a pier in Sandpiper Village last Vets day.  Who can't take a pic of a sunset right?

Throughout the year, I've been able to experience new photography lessons, bought books, asked questions relating to the hobby, fixed an old polaroid, and learned that fuji discontinued their fp100 line (UGH), learned about flash (still learning that forever);  I immersed myself with all different styles and types to try and find my 'niche'. I paid $400 for a macro lens and second flash, I bought film cameras--a minolta X700 and Canon AE1 program, shot film, talked with others I've met about shooting film---I'm still confused what I like to shoot, but shooting film and people are my choices at this juncture.  I'm a little nervous about shooting the Sheriff's Retirement Ceremony next month too.  All these jitters aren't with me now, but will be leading up to the event!  I plan on getting up with some of my fellow pro wedding photogs.  I plan on taking more pics of people, strangers, getting them to pose--maybe work on some urban photography to help myself get over fear of rejection.  I know I'll probably be able to talk easily with my colleagues and my working peeps, but I figure there will be some very important people there to shoot.  Looking forward to it now, when I probably wouldn't have wanted the job six months ago.

Over the past year I've not only gotten more comfortable with camera and my skills as a budding amateur photographer, but I've come to realize some styles just aren't me.  I've relied on books and blogs from others and constantly perused the internets/instagrams/500px's and Flickr accounts for motivation.  I've learned about photographers such as Eggleston and the New York Times reporter for fashion who recently died this year.  I've read books on war photography and was enthralled--Lynsey Addario--(amazing woman--I don'y think I could have put my job in front of family, but damn, what a life to live.)

I've bought lenses, learned about multiple deaths of friends, friends of family, childhood friends, all while putting this blog together.  I've learned about myself too, growing a little less tolerant of others, some 'friends', and the non-need of social media such as facebook.  Everything can seem so petty sometimes, and the majority of people blow things out of proportion.  If we were as brave face to face as we are behind a keyboard, I believe there'd be a lot less stress and problems in the world. I need to institute a plan for my family to spend less time on social media or staring at phones and tablets, and more time talking and interacting with one another.  These are only a few of the lessons I've learned over the past year.  My 'goals' are to remove facebook completely by deleting it. Period!

I love to use Instagram for the most part, as I've met total strangers that I am now friends with, hung out with, traveled thousands of miles to see (kinda) and hang out with to learn about they places they're from and how they do things.  It's been a beautiful experience.  The difference between IG and FB is that IG makes you love people you've never met, and FB makes you hate the people you already know.  Aint' that the DAMN truth.

So, as a final post for my first year, this weeks adventures have been busy ones.  Amber turned 40 on Wednesday, we voted in a new President, who will hopefully take control of the finances and government waste, and coffeeneured (other blog) and camped, and watched our Blue Angels fly their final show of 2016, all in the course of the past five days.  Maybe that's why I didn't take too many pics during the week-maybe that's why I came up with excuses to not do so--maybe that's the reason I shot film--whatever the reason, even with the year's shortcomings, I've become better at the hobby that I love by leaps and bounds.  It's a great time to be alive.

I'll probably summarize more in this blog, not taking pics of everyday occurrences, but maybe shoot film and share my adventures, or rolls, or whatever I feel like writing about.  This was a fun project.  Thanks for tagging along.
