Friday January 6, 2017 (January stuff now :))

Friday January 6, 2017.

So the new year brings some new questions.
Am i going to be able to save for a new DSLR body this year?
Am I going to learn to develop film?
Am I going to have to ground my daughter till she's 18?
What trials and tribulations will there be this year?
Bring on 2017, I'm ready.

Earlier this week, I was looking at my friends 'best 9' on instagram.
I went to the site and posted my best 9, but after thinking about it, that is my 'best 9' based on likes from others, which really isn't my best 9 as far as I'm concerned.

MY best nine, which matter to me for 2016 are posted below. Hell, my favorite pic of 2016, which I had framed into an 8x10 was taken by my daughter, not even by me (of course I had set up the camera).

Needless to say, with the adventurous year we've had, it's pretty hard to be set on ONLY nine pics.  Trips taken, learning photography, getting better at it, others.  Some quick synopses:
My best twenty-nine:)

Jen warms up in the Sun
Coffee Joint waiting for Parker Millsap to play (30a songwriters fest)

Not sure why but this is one of my fave pics
Would definitely be a top 10.  (taken at mardi gras parade in Feb)

popular with IG'ers--long exposure when there was no sunset--used my Macro.

Took this shot as the sun set and as I played with my new (at the time) macro 100mm lens.  Turned out quite well
Peaches in March

More macro Goodness--a close up of a stump with moss at Langdon Beach

Even warmer--April pic of my beautiful daughter eclipsing a setting sun

My neighbor working her headstand on the board.  One of many taken with my refurbished (new battery) Canon Powershot G1
I take this with me on paddleboarding trips because it's expendible in case it gets wet, but still takes great shots for 18 years

Working on the eyes and rule of thirds in this one--starting to utilize photooshop more and now shooting in RAW

Avery's last dance recital with Dancin for Fun--we loved her classes and teacher.
Unfortunately this awesome studio closed this year due to low enrollment and relocation of the owners. A sad day

Another beautiful sunset paddle, taken behind our house with the good old reliable Powershot G1

Swimmin time:  a quick trip to the NLO in August to swim under beautiful calm conditions.
the two GT's.  Times sure have changed relationship-wise with us and his parents.

Long exposure of daughter crossing the rocks at Crawford Notch, New Hampshire (another top ten pic)

My number one pic this year.  Thanks Avery for taking it.

My favorite family pic of the year--exploring Cape Cod using a tripod and a 24mm

a rare pic of my son actually pausing to show his face.  Guess he wanted to post this. He likes backgrounds.

scaling the dunes in my new Sweatshirt on the Cape. Sticker size still on the fabric

Jen at top of the tower in Provincetown.  Another top ten.

my beautiful wife enjoying another spectacular summer sunset

snail macro.  right before the rain came--guess we all had our umbrellas open.  an IG favorite.

After being rained in, we were able to get out for a quick trip to our favorite spot at NLO.
My neighbs were game and I snapped this shot--looked much better in B/W and the 'clouds were so pretty" so I went with it

Coffeeneuring trips and graffiti--what better way to get rid of old spray paint?

An overnight with coffeeneuring at dawn.  It was almost cold out.  The ladies thought differently. either way, the coffee was especially tasty since we earned it with a ride before hand.

I rode home and took this pic with a small tripod and my 24mm.  Happy the way it turned out.

Thanksgiving at the double jack.  Checked out the local state park. Got this fountain shot with wifey behind it.
Also started to break in my new Canon M, which I use all the time now.

Wide angle of the boys after a setting sun

Early morning bike rides are the best. Stopped to take this as Jen slept in. She beat me in total mileage on bikes this year by seven miles. Proud of her.

The final day of 2016 brought another top 5 pic.  This abandoned 50' broken yacht washed up on the beach about two weeks prior.  there is nothing inside it to identify it.  We stopped on the way home to get a couple of shots.
The bottom one was printed 8x10. It sits now on our wall.  I love my wide angle--possibly best.

So in a nutshell, there are my top pics. I do have my favorites, but it's impossible to choose 9.  Thanks for hanging with me this year--I'm excited to see what 2017 will bring in the way of photography, and other things...stay tuned...
