January 6, 2017 (December 2016 in general--a summary)
So this December I decided to give myself the gift of a photoshop Grunge Class by Sebastian Alexander. I've been studying how to use it, learning great things. Spending hours watching classes and learning how to use the most basic skills in this robust program to make the coolest images, so, needless to say, I've been working more with post-production, than actually going out and taking pics. What iv'e learned though is that ELEMENTS of the pic are very important, as I find myself continually opening and adding and layering and adding effects, etc.
I 'overdid' a photo for my favorite neighbors, printing it to a 16x20, but after toying with it for 3 or so hours, I was happy with results. Here is one I used multiple layers for on the wifey, some riprap wire from const site, a sepia sky, and Milton no trespass sign next to a train trestle.
I have also been photoing retirement ceremonies, and other stuff over the month. Dec 15 was my first 'paid' gig (based on OT working after hours). My friend loaned me his 100-400mm (too much lens for the area) and also his 70-200 2.8 sigma. I really worked this lens as the auditorium has horrible light, but luckily the podium was lighted so, with a smaller amount of grain at iso800, there was a lot of luminance change to reduce noise, but not as much as I expected.
However, I found the best pics occurred with off camera flash after the ceremony with my 24mm pancake! After 16 years our sheriff (whom I've worked for, for 12 years) has retired. It's been a great run--enjoy retirement, sir.
At the end of the month we went on a camping trip to Ft Pickens to attempt to bring in the new year. Unfortunately the weather had different plans, and we ended up celebrating at our house. Small world note: met a new friend, that I later found out was a good friend/co-worker's daughter/sister.
Some camping pics, taken with Canon t3i and 70-200 Sigma 2.8 (still on Loan) Thanks Joe. HOWEVER, my favorite lens for the beach is my 10-18mm-these pics below were mostly taken with that lens. Abby was cold.
