January is usually a very cold month in Florida. As the National States--'sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave' Jen and I feel this way. We never mind going to bed early, and spend a lot of time learning and catching up on binge watching Netflix and listening to music.
There are usually good shows to go to in January though--We were able to see Caleb Caudle, Aaron Lee Tasjan, and John Moreland a couple of years ago at Callaghans in January--our first amazing 50 person show experience. Last year we went to see Caleb Caudle again with a full band. This year we went to see up and coming and very popular Parker Millsap. We both fell in love with this kid when we saw him at 30a last year. Saw him again with Sarah Jarosz at Vinyl Music Hall, and now the third time in a year at our favorite music joint, Callaghans, in Mobile. As usual, we were not disappointed. We took the long cut there, leaving early in the day to make stops along the way and shoot photos with both the EOS M and the 100mm. I wanted to stop at a few places along the way to take pics, but the day moved on quickly, and the trip to Mobile (even though it started early due to MLK day) got dark quickly. Luckily we were at one of our favorite places to take pics on the water (Farihope, AL) at sunset, stopping at Weeks Bay preserve on the way. I decided to take random pics of people as I'm getting courage to take pics of strangers. The sun was delicious, but not perfect--however, in order to get to our destination for sunset pics, we were a little rushed. Found some pelicans and some fisherman--took some pics with the 100mm. Then were able to make Fairhope at sunset, then off to see the show and eat some great food.

This year, January has been unusually warm. We usually wait until late February / early March to hike, but we needed to get out. We have gone on two hikes this year, both exploring the Naval Live Oaks Sound side 'fishing trails' and pathways. We learned about walking paths, the canopies of old oaks that keep the area about 20 degrees cooler than the coastline of the sound, and some pretty cool fallen huge oaks too. The past two weeks have been awesome, the first hike with Jen and GT, the last weekend with our neighbors and their nephew.
The first weekend I took the EOSM with the 22mm lens, and packed the MamiyaU as the film camera. (I'll post them when I actually get them developed!)

Finally, also able to snare a couple of quick macro closeups. I LOVE when I hear bees on my lemon tree in my courtyard on a warm winter day.
