New Camera testing- Kodak Retina IIc
Sunday January 28-more new camera testing
The second camera I received was a Kodak Retina IIc, I'm thinking from 1954. A beautiful fold up range-finder that took a little getting used to before I took it out for a sunny 16 rule test run.
I loaded in some Superia 200 color because I don't like testing a new/old camera with expired film.
I had a couple of opportunites to shoot it--once on a freezing cold day (In Florida, they shut down cities) when I got an admin leave day from work due to weather. I went out and took pics of icicles, and multiple other pics using the 24 exposure roll. I was pretty sure that I set the camera correctly on every shot, as it's not a 'point and shoot' type camera. There are multiple settings for shutter speed and aperture, which take some getting used to before you shoot. there are clips that need to be lifted and other movements that need to be done before the shutter is released.
I had a couple of issues where the shutter appeared to 'stick' open which i'll have to troubleshoot. Although I was able to get eight pics out of the 24 attempted that were able to be developed, I'll try it again with some black and white and attempt to self-develop, otherwise, it'll be a shelf ornament as there is no way I can afford a CLA for a free, gifted camera.
There is plenty to do when shooting the camera, and it's seems semi-portable, so for anything other than that, and that it came from a person I respect very much, i'll keep it around and try to make it work. It'll be an experiment for when I feel like working the range finder!
